Charles Glenn Steele, age 83, of Roanoke, Virginia, peacefully passed away on May 13, 2023, at Lewis Gale Salem. He was born on June 4, 1939, in Bluefield, Virginia, to the late James Albert Steele and Mattie Darthula Dailey Steele.

In addition to his parents, James and Mattie Steele, and wife Eva, Charles was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Ann Levester; and brother-in-law, Dick Weatherly.

Charles was a graduate of Princeton High School. He was inducted into the United States Air Force in Beckley, West Virginia, and he was stationed in Alaska for several years; he also served in National Guard. He worked for six months at the National Cemetery, guarding the grave of an unknown soldier. Charles' first job was with Sheet Metal in Princeton, West Virginia; he later worked as a welder, truck driver, and an overall, jack of all trades. One of his special achievements was welding bridges across the state of Virginia, especially the Rappahantic Bridge.

He was united in Holy matrimony on October 25, 1961, in Princeton, West Virginia, to the love of his life, Eva Weatherly. To this union were born twin sons, Jerry and Terry Steele. His marriage to Eva was one of his fondest memories and greatest accomplishments.

Charles was a Christian man and loved the Lord. He enjoyed reading his favorite book, the Bible; and listening to his favorite gospel songs, such as The Old Rugged Cross and The Lighthouse. Family was very important to Charles; he cherished spending time and making memories with them. One family tradition was making sausage and gravy biscuits every Saturday morning. He enjoyed canning and making jelly. He also enjoyed gardening and camping. Charles was an outgoing and loving man, who never met a stranger. He took pride in helping others and would often lend a helping hand to his neighbors. One of his favorite sayings was "Tree Turpintine Muttons Tallar."

Those left to cherish his memory are his twin sons, Terry Wayne Steele and Jerry Lane Steele; two grandchildren, Lauren Ashley Steele, and Kimberly Patricia Steele; brother, James R. Steele; sister, Linda Carol Rose; close friends, Ronnie Harper and Charlie Thomas; and a host of other relatives and friends.
