Chandler Michael Hovanec, 26, affectionately known as Chan, by his family and friends, departed this life on March 6, 2023, in Roanoke, Virginia. Chan was born on March 4, 1997, in Cumberland, Maryland, to John and Kimberly Hovanec, who survive.
Chan enjoyed spending time with his friends and family every chance he had. He enjoyed listening to all genres of music, cooking and experimenting with different spices, and watching UFC fights. Chan was a kind and gentle soul, with a heart of gold and would do anything in the world for anyone. He had the funniest sense of humor.
Chan was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Carolyn J., and Ray E. Guessford; maternal great grand-mother, Rachel V. Guessford; maternal great-grandmother, Betty L. Smoot Wright; half-brother, Jason M. Hovanec; his uncles, Andrew Hovanec and Ray E. Guessford, Jr.; cousin, Andrew Hovanec; and a host of other cousins, great aunts, and great uncles.
Those left to cherish Chan's memory are his loving and devoted parents, John M. and Kimberly S. Hovanec; paternal grandfather, Andrew Hovanec; paternal grandmother, Dorothy L. McMillen; half-sister, Shanna R. Hovanec, aunt, Suzanne Hovanec; uncles and aunts, Tom and Renee Hovanec, James and Veronica Hovanec, Ricky and Maryann Manery, Robin and Richard Miller, Rodney, and Michelle Guessford; cousins that are more like siblings, Ashley Miller and Aaron Miller; long time best friend, Cody Kane and his girlfriend Abby, of Hagerstown, Maryland; great friends, David and Morgan Garza of Roanoke, Virginia; and a host of close aunts, great aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces, other relatives, and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on March 11, 2023, at 4 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, Maryland 21740, with Pastor Tome Stottlemyer officiating.
