Catherine "Katie" Josephine Penrod, a devoted mother, grandmother, and servant of God, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2024, at the age of 94. Born on April 6, 1930, in Sidney, Ohio, to the late Benjamin A. and Elizabeth Henry Couchot, Katie lived a life dedicated to her faith, family, and community.
Preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Kenneth, Harold, and Norman; her sisters, Mary Evelyn Borror and Sherla Sullivan; her husband, Robert F. Penrod; and her son, Danny Lee Penrod
After attending schools in Sidney and Houston, Ohio, and studying at Moody Bible Institute, Katie embarked on a remarkable journey alongside her husband, Robert F. Penrod. Together, they pastored churches for 21 years, spreading the word of God across Iowa, Michigan, New York, Illinois, and Indiana. Their unwavering commitment to their faith was further exemplified when they served as directors of the Child Evangelism Fellowship in Indiana from 1981 to 1995.
Katie's love for children knew no bounds. For 11 years, she operated a nursery in her home, providing care and nurturing to hundreds of children across La Porte County, Indiana. Her warmth and compassion touched the lives of countless families, leaving an indelible mark on the community.
Katie leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. She is survived by her daughters, Rita Ann Ash and Hope Ann Brown; her 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Katie's life was a testament to her unwavering faith, her dedication to family, and her selfless service to others. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A Celebration of Life will be held on June 7, 2024, at 7 PM at Gospel Light Baptist Church with Pastor Wayne Wyatt and Pastor Earl Clemens officiating.
