Carolyn Shaver Spangler, 71, of Salem, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home in her sleep on Friday, August 14, 2026. She was born on July 30, 1955.

Carolyn was an avid animal lover, especially when it came to horses. She worked as a bus driver for Roanoke County Public Schools for over 30 years, where she was known for her dedication and care.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Ovella Shaver; her husband, Alan Spangler; and her sisters, Rose, Norma and Geneva.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Rachel (Josh) and Connie; her son, BT (Jalisa); her grandchildren, April (Brandon), Nichole, Alex, Mady, Brooke, John, Elijah and Isabella; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Valley Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., with the service beginning at 11 a.m. Pastor Samuel Huntley will officiate.

The family would like to give special thanks to Ruth, Linda and the many other staff members at Good Samaritan Hospice for the endless support they gave the family during this time.

Carolyn will be remembered for her love of animals, her devotion to her family and the many lives she touched throughout her years.
