Obituary

Brenda Earlene Gonzalez, a beloved soul, departed this world on Thursday, September 21, 2023, in Bedford, VA, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of love.

Born on June 24, 1947, in War, West Virginia, Brenda dedicated many years of her life to working as a bookkeeper and secretary for Roanoke County Schools, a role she held until her well-deserved retirement in 2009. Her dedication and passion for her work left a lasting mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Brenda's zest for life extended far beyond the workplace. She had a profound love for creativity, finding joy in reading, painting pottery, crafting, and the sport of bowling. Her adventurous spirit led her to explore the world, with a particular passion for traveling and indulging in fine foods and wines. Some of her most cherished memories were made during trips to Spain and the breathtaking beauty of Niagara Falls. Brenda also held fond memories of time spent with family and friends in the charming city of Ocean City, Maryland.

One of Brenda's most endearing qualities was her unwavering willingness to help others. She was a true social butterfly, making friends wherever she went, and her generous heart knew no bounds. Brenda's kindness and compassion left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.

Brenda is preceded in death by her husband, Mariano Gonzalez; her parents, Dorothy and Walter Grinestaff; and her brothers, Terry Cecil and James Grinestaff. She now rests peacefully alongside them.

Those fortunate enough to have known Brenda and to carry her memory in their hearts include her loving daughter, Brandie Bailey (Jason); her stepsons, Brian Gonzalez and Jeffrey Gonzalez; her caring brother, Dennis Grinestaff (Mary Rose); and her dear sister, Nina Niehaus (Jay).

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at Gentiva Hospice and Carriage Hill Senior Living for their unwavering support and care during Brenda's final journey.

A memorial service to celebrate Brenda's remarkable life will be scheduled later in the Spring, allowing us to come together to honor the legacy she leaves behind. Until then, let us remember the light she brought into our lives and keep her spirit alive by sharing love, laughter, and kindness with one another.
