Mrs. Bonnie Hunley Underwood, of Roanoke, Virginia passed away joining her parents and son in heaven on Monday, December 6, 2021, at the age of 74. She was born on October 26, 1947, to the late Willie M. and Rhoda Gray Hunley. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Joyce Correll and Rodney (Bud) Hunley, Sr.; and her loving son, Walter Lynn Underwood.

Mom was one of a kind. She would always go out of her way to help others that were in need of care and always gave support to her family, raising her children on her own. Bonnie shaped her family to see that happiness is never a material thing, but the love that you give to each other.

Bonnie attended medical school in her younger years in hopes to enter the medical field, but Jesus had other plans for her life. Once her son Walter became ill, she was able to use her skills from school to help be the wonderful caretaker for her son and her family.  She was a loving grandmother who doted on her grandkids, who always called Darlin`,  as well as their friends that greeted her each day as they came in the house. Mama was an exceptional person with a great outlook on life.  You could always see mama smiling and joking around as if there were no worries in this world. A beautiful soul has gone too soon, but gracious memory that she leaves behind to remember.

Those left to remember her cherished memories are her loving children, Shari Sarks and her husband, Dewayne and Tony Underwood; grandchildren, Cameron Sarks (Troy), Austin Sarks, Haley Sarks (Clayton Pellitteri), and Kourtne Peck and her husband, Michael; great-grandchildren, Israel, Jaylen, Ariana, Ezekiel, Nevaeh, and Grayson; siblings, sister and best friend, Betty Lou Jenkins and Jimmy Hunley, Sr.; special friends, Melinda Hopkins, and Dortha Meador; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 10, 2021, at 5 p.m. with Michael Peck officiating. The family will lovingly greet friends from 4 until the time of service at Valley Funeral Home.
