Obituary

Bobby Custer Webster, age 91, of Salem, VA died in Boones Mill, VA. On October 31, 2024, at his son's home.

He was born in Boones Mill, VA in the year 1933 to Flora and Henry Webster, and upon the death of his mother, at age two, was raised by his maternal grandparents Willie and Essie Custer. He has one brother Ralph (wife Peggy) Webster, one stepsister Nancy Carol Webb (predeceased), and one stepbrother W.K. Webster (wife Veronica).

He married JoAnne Martin and together they traveled and enjoyed their life together. He is survived by his wife, JoAnne, his three children, Linda (son-in-law David), Robert (daughter-in-law Deborah), and daughter, Donna (son-in-law Tim (predeceased)), five stepchildren Jackie (daughter-in-law Edith), Jeff (daughter-in-law JoAnne), Jimmy (daughter-in-law Stephanie), Jerry (daughter-in-law Cindy), and Joey (daughter-in-law Amy). He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Bobby had a soft spot for his furry friend Harmony who traveled with him for years, always close by his side, and whom he considered a valuable family member until she passed. Bobby had an adventurous spirit and when he was old enough to do so, he joined the Air Force. He served honorably for 20 years and retired on December 31, 1971. This venture also began a side career in music for him. He was a self-taught musician and an expert steel guitar player. Throughout his life, he formed bands and delighted people who loved country music as much as he did. In the last couple of years, he played with the Buck Mountain Gospel singers and formed a close bond with all the band members and those who attended in fellowship. Bobby was well renowned for telling jokes and loved to make people laugh.
