Betty Jean Thornton, 84, of Salem, Virginia went to be with her Lord on Saturday, August 7, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents Earl Hampton Doyle and Helen McDaniel Doyle, sister, Diane Boone, and husband of 50 years, Burley Thomas Thornton.

She is survived by her siblings; Sam Doyle (Barbara), Gene Doyle, Barbara Sprouse (Bill), Gale Bartmess (Tony), children; Bonnie Baucom (Mike), Ricky Thornton (Mary), Danny Thornton (Monica), Buck Thornton (Jennifer), and grandchildren; DJ Thornton, Chelsea Parker (Jeremy), Ricky Thornton Jr., Logan Thornton, and Hailey Albrecht (Aaron), great-grandchildren; Dylan, Katelyn, Audryna, Lexcyee, Brylee, and Dallyse Parker and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Mom served God with all her heart and that was reflected in the way she loved and served her family and friends. Her laughter was infectious, and her tears showed a special strength by revealing the compassion she had for others. She enjoyed working on crossword puzzles, attending Bible Study, and Gospel Singing.

Graveside service will be held at the Bohon Family Cemetery (4786 Bohon Hollow Rd. in Salem, VA) on Thursday, August 12, 2021, at 11 a.m. with Ernest Wood officiating. The family will be receiving friends 30 minutes prior.
