Betty June
Mcmahan
May 22, 1933 — Dec 28, 2021
New Castle
Betty June McMahan passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at the age of 88. Betty was the oldest of 7 brothers and sisters, mother of 2 sons, and Memaw to a granddaughter and grandson.
Betty June is predeceased by her parents, Harry Preston McPherson and Aretta Mae Paitsel McPherson; husband, Donald Ray McMahan; son, Michael Ray McMahan; brothers, Luther McPherson and Gene McPherson; and her sister, Polly All.
Betty June retired from Halmode Apparel after numerous years of dedicated work. More often than not, you could find her at a ballgame enjoying watching her sons and grandchildren play ball. She would always cheer the Rockets to a win and was never afraid to speak her mind or let the referees know how she felt. If you were hungry around Betty June, it wasn't for long, as she would have a full meal ready before you could sit down to eat. She was a lifetime member of Mountain View Christian Church in New Castle, Virginia, and faithfully served her Lord until her last breath. She very much appreciated the beauty of nature and enjoyed living in the mountains and watching the beautiful changes of the seasons that our home goes through. You could often find Betty June sitting on her porch watching traffic go by and was proud of her friends and neighbors in the tight-knit community of New Castle.
Those left to cherish Betty June's beautiful memory are her loving son, Tim McMahan (Vivien); her grandchildren, Leah Hale (Josh) and Nicholas McMahan; she has a great-grandchild on the way; daughter-in-law, Teresa McMahan; brothers, Billy Burch McPherson (Jennifer), Dan McPherson (Linda), and Freddie McPherson (Barbara); her sister-in-law, Pam McPherson; her brother-in-law, Reggie All; special friend and caregiver, Margaret F. Riggs; her very special nephew, Paul McPherson; and numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Betty was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend that will be missed dearly.
