Barry Davis
Stone
Oct 15, 1949 — May 29, 2025
Barry D. Stone, known affectionately by all as "Bear," passed away peacefully just the way he wanted—at home in Huddleston, Virginia, with his devoted caregiver, Pebbles, and compassionate social worker Shana by his side. Born in Roanoke, Virginia, on October 15, 1949, Barry lived life entirely on his own terms.
Having been preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and children, Barry leaves behind not relatives, but the dearest friends who became his chosen family, the Jones family, who stood by him through thick and thin.
Barry was an extraordinary man, a true original. A proud and honorable Vietnam Veteran, he traveled the world, cooked like a pro, and found his greatest peace in the woods where he lived off the grid. Hunting, fishing, and solitude were his comforts, and the wilderness was his sanctuary.
He was sharp, fiercely independent, and wonderfully complex. Barry didn't pretend so if he liked you, you were one of a kind; if he didn't, you knew it. Underneath his spicy, bold personality, fueled by years of Tabasco and jalapeños, was a heart of gold. He could keep you on your toes one minute and make you feel seen the next.
If you hear the song "My Way," think of Barry; that's exactly how he lived.
A heartfelt thank-you goes to the angels of Good Samaritan, Nurse Jennifer, Social Worker Shana, and Chaplain Susan, for their above-and-beyond care and kindness. Your compassion made all the difference.
Per Barry's wishes, there will be no formal services. He will be cremated, and that is all he asked.
If you'd like to honor his memory, please consider a donation to Puppies Behind Bars (PBB), a cause close to his heart.
