Barbara Jean Thompson, 81, of Salem, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, December 23, 2023. Barbara is preceded in death by her mother, Barbara Iva Dooley; Brothers: Lynn Dooley, Clyde Dooley, and Tom Dooley; and her grandson, Christopher M. Thompson.

Surviving are her two sons, Chris Thompson, and wife, Karen, of Ferrum; Jeff Thompson, of Roanoke; her sister, Joyce Bryant, of New Castle; her sisters-in-law, Iris Dooley, of Salem and Kathy Dooley, of Ohio; and her grandchildren: Drew, Timothy, Damon, Devin, and Macy.

Barbara was an extraordinary woman; she demonstrated unwavering devotion as a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Every moment spent with her family was a cherished joy to Barbara, and being with her children was a true blessing. Her love extended beyond her immediate family to encompass her Church family, as Barbara held a deep affection for the Lord. She adorned the roles of a loving Mother, Mother-in-law, Sister, and Grandmother with grace and compassion.

Many special thanks to those who were so gracious in assisting Mom.

A Graveside service will be held at Sherwood Memorial Gardens on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at 2 p.m., the service is to be conducted by Bishop Jim Gerken of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the LOA - League of Older Americans would be appreciated.
