Barbara Jane Riley Hinchee, age, 89, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2024. She was born on April 17, 1935, in Roanoke, VA, to the late Harry and Isabel Riley.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Jerry Hinchee, who passed away in November of 2017.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Hinchee; daughter, Kathy Purdy; and her siblings, Shirley Riley, Betty Riley Laprad, and Ronnie Riley.

She was a devout member of Faith Baptist Church in Fincastle, VA, for many years. She lived her life grounded in her faith and belief in God. She did a meticulous job, making a home for her beloved husband, Jerry for 52 years and her children, Kathy, Melissa, and Steven.

After her children grew up, she worked at Flowers & Things, exploring her creative talents. Barbara loved to cook and host for her extended family. She had a special love for the Christmas holiday season. She enjoyed decorating the home, wrapping presents, and making her own bows and wreaths. Her home made you feel as though you'd stepped into a Norman Rockwell painting. She loved to watch and listen to Baseball. The New York Yankees was her favorite team and Derek Jeter was her favorite player. She loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren, Joshua, Zachary, Elizabeth, Noah, and Anne, and her great-grandchildren: Bryce, Hanna, Jacob, Caleb, Harper, Emma, Carson & Jerry, whom she cherished dearly.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Melissa Hinchee Smith; son, Steven Hinchee; daughter-in-law, Noelle Hinchee; son-in-law, John Purdy; sister and brother-in-law; Sandra and Harry Baker her grandchildren, Joshua Hinchee, Zachary Hinchee, Noah Hinchee, Elizabeth Smith, Anne Smith; her great-grandchildren, Bryce Davis, Hanna Davis,  Jacob Hinchee, Caleb Hinchee, Harper Hinchee, Emma Hinchee, Carson Hinchee, Jerry Hinchee; special friend, Stuart Rorer and several nieces, nephews, and friends

A Memorial Service will be held on July 20, 2024, at 2 pm at Lamplight Baptist Church 4307 Rock Garden Lane Roanoke, Virginia 24018, with Pastor Jeff Gardner, officiating.
