Obituary

Aurelia "Hope" (Gaylor) Cumbie, 73, of Salem, VA, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, January 29, 2023. She was born July 31, 1949, in Roanoke, VA, the daughter of the late Annie Lucille Smith Gaylor and Jesse Elgin Gaylor; and attended William Fleming High School.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Robert L. "Bobby" Cumbie Jr.; sister, Donna Gaylor, and her brother, Dean Gaylor.

She is survived by her son, Richard DeHart (Johnny Wheeling); her daughter, Melissa Bessell (Mark); her grandchildren, Robert Crowder (Reyna), Jenna Ferguson (Zane), Bryce Bessell (Rebecca); and great-grandchildren, Asher, Kayden, Tristan, Evren, Fae, and Ayden; her sister, Sherry Wright; her brother-in-law, Steven Cumbie. As well as her nieces and nephews and their families, Lisa Francisco (Bryant), Josephine Pruitt (Matt), Christy Jennings, Kevin St.Clair (Tammy), and Ottis Cumbie.

A private family service will be held at a future date. Crematory services are provided by Valley Funeral Home in Roanoke, VA.

Thank you to the staff at Brookdale Salem, Lewis Gale Alleghany, Richfield (Roanoke), as well as MSA (MediHome and Hospice) for providing wonderful care and support over the last several months.
