Albert William Pickering, Jr., of Roanoke, affectionately known as Junnie, Junebug, and Brother by his sisters, was called home on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at the age of 70.
Albert was born on August 10, 1952, to the late Albert William, Sr., and Kathleen Farmer Greenway Pickering in Roanoke.
Albert is also preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Pickering; and his beloved cat, Jasper.
As a teenager, he went to work with his dad as a painter; and later worked for St. Clair Construction. He finally retired from E.C. Pace as a machine operator after 46 years of faithful service, never missing a day of work. He was an experienced backhoe operator who enjoyed his job.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 43 years, Barbara Pickering; his daughters, Cindy Eveland (Dan), and Tammy Pickering (Frank); his son, William Pickering; his grandchildren, Kirra and Hanna Eveland; his sisters, Patricia Williams, Lorena Oliver, Nancy Pritcher (Steve), and Kathy Lyle; his brother-in-law, Tom Wright; his sisters-in-law, Mary Wright (Tommy), and Judy Gibson (Eddie); and numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and other family members who he adored.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Carilion Hospice, especially Meghan and Donna who were our angels in our time of need; in addition, a special thank you to E.C. Pace, Chick, and Mark Pace for their heartfelt expressions of gratitude during the passing of our husband and father. We would also like to acknowledge his beloved daughter Tammy who stayed by his side and took care of him until his passing, we can't thank her enough for all she has done.
A visitation to commemorate Albert's life will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at Valley Funeral Home Chapel from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
As per Albert's wishes, a private family graveside service will be held.
